Storytelling through Multimedia
Beginning in October 2022, photogrammetry models of the Tangible Media Lab were captured, resulting in over 40 high-resolution 3D scans. A live action point cloud running on three Azure Kinects was composited on top of an Autodesk Maya polygon-based model environment.
A mixed reality interface using Microsoft spatial mapping SDK captured a full scan of the lab environment for HoloLens overlay interactions. The interface connected digital twins of each object with physical correlates.

Interacting in a 3D Timeline
Users explored a chronology of CGI history by retargeting their hand gestures via a Leap Motion Controller onto Catmulls’ “hand”.
The dialogue of the story was told by two bookended iMac G3 monitors, each animated by Parke’s faces, re-animated with the original Apple text-to-speech engine, “MacinTalk”.

A Spatial Narrative on Hardware
Using media artifacts with contemporary technology, the story of “The Machine Stops” was told through the medium of media archaeology.
